Taking Time to Take Time

I have been blogging for the past year and a half and (hopefully) helping you organize your digital life. It’s crucial for me to be able to do so because I want this blog to be meaningful to you. I should probably note that in an earlier version of this post (which got posted…) I said, “I want to be important.” This was not my meaning nor was it my intention. It does, however, illustrate my point. When I started this, it was fun and exciting, and now it feels like all I am is under the gun to meet a deadline. Because I’m incapable of not being able to do that It’s been causing me a lot of sleepless nights trying to cobble something together that I could present to you. There is nothing worse than feeling the light of the train coming up behind you while you are laying the track. The last thing I want is to get run over.

I was going through such a situation last week. Wednesday night I was trying to pull together reasons for the Starbucks app working. To be clear it’s a great app and the coffee is fantastic, but for whatever reason, I was unable to articulate that in a way that would fill up a blog article. That’s the issue; it’s become less about informing you and more about filling the space. That’s not right, that’s not what you deserve. Because of this (and because of a swift thwacking over the head my Wife had given me), I am going to be taking some time off of posting. Not too long, just a couple of months. That being said, I am going to be keeping busy. I’m going to be doing a few things;

1) Need your opinion – I want to make sure that the content that I’m putting out works for you. Writing this blog isn’t for me, it’s for you, and if you don’t like what you’ve seen recently (or want to see something different), I need you to tell me. In November I’m going to be putting out a short questionnaire that will hopefully give me some guidance on where I need to go. For my Subscribers, I will be sending you an e-mail with a link that will take you to the poll. I will also be putting it up on Social Media a couple of times so keep an eye out for it if that’s how you access my blog.

2) I’ll be furiously working on Content – Just cause I’m not posting doesn’t mean I won’t be working. Some of my best stuff came from when I was a few weeks ahead of what I was posting. Sadly I let that slide (my bad), and I would like to build up that reservoir of posts so that you can benefit from proper, well worked on posts, and not just something I slapped together the night before.

3) Commenting on Stories – You will still me on Social Media. I use a service called “Feedly” which allows me to access news from across a wide spread of sources and have it all in one place. There’s loads of tech news on nearly a daily basis so I will be able to offer my thoughts on most things tech related that comes out. Also, if you think you see something I may be interested in, tag me in it; @jasonlovefiles on twitter, facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.

4) Backstage Pass – Last, but not Least, I will be putting out exclusive content to my Subscribers. Those of you who have been with me for a while deserve to have your faith in me continued, and those who recently joined should have yours justified, so I will be putting out e-mails around one a week which will have an exclusive look “behind the curtain” and see what I’m up to. I promise it will not be a series of me in my pyjamas looking blurry eyed at my computer, well, it won’t ALL be that.

This is going to be a short post today only because I’m anxious to get started on my new content and I want to make sure that I’m able to get a running start at it. I hope that over this period you stick with me on this. Taking some time to make sure that I offer you quality content is a good thing, and I want to make sure that I’m catering to what you need.

I look forward to hearing from all of you and see you in the new year!

    I have learned lots of tips from you Jason! I am no longer fearful of trying to download new apps when I need to. My friend was transferring tickets to me recently using AXS and I did not even panic. Thanks Jason
