So typically I like talking here about filing and how to Organize your Digital Life. But I’m a big apple fan, and so I thought I should do a quick review of the Keynote that happened yesterday.
Like many Apple fans I have heard the hype about the iPhone X and the 8 and the new watch, so undoubtedly I was glued to my device watching the Keynote to see what was going on. I have to admit, the stuff that the new iPhone X can do is fantastic. The augmented reality stuff alone will prove to be amazing. The only thing that would stop me from getting the X (aside from the fact that my iPhone works correctly) is the galactic price.
Apple used to pride itself as a company for the people, but that price is for only people with too much money, and even they wouldn’t want to pay that much. My only other concern is that the phone doesn’t appear to come with a charger. I love that Apple is embracing Qi inductive charging (which the rest of the Cell phone world has been doing for a while) but do not include a charger for the phone? After asking us to pay over $1,000.00 for it? No, I’m good thanks!
That being said they have come up with some fantastic features that will benefit them in the future. The design overhaul will prove to be an exciting change for Apple. The “full screen” screen is interesting, and I’m cautiously optimistic about how it will work. Seemed to work ok in the Keynote, but I think that future models it will be even better. The facial recognition software is the real winner of this new phone. In the Keynote when they talked about how the odds of someone being able to open your phone who wasn’t you were 1 in a million? Even with artists making masks that look like you and then still not working? That was seriously awesome.
The 8 and 8 Plus is another story, it looks good, I like the improved camera, and it follows the slightly more classic design with the home button. Notably, it’s also a somewhat more reasonable price, like the one we have come to expect from Apple. My prediction is that this will sell much more than the X, but I look forward to seeing how that will turn out.
The star of the show for me was the series three Apple Watch. I currently have a series one apple watch and while I love it and use it every single day, having the addition of the cellular functionality as well as being able to use the watch as a stand-alone device is a serious plus for me. I was watching with my wife, and we both liked the opening video for the Apple watch when they were going through letters and e-mail about how they had been using their apple watches. At one point or another, she turned to me and said “this is all of you!” which was true. I have been a hardcore user of the apple watch since I was able to get one in 2015.
I liked watching the Keynote Live. The Steve Jobs theatre looked very cool, and I love that the direction that they are taking as far as having a new and different workspace with the Apple Park “Spaceship”. I’m a big believer in utilizing renewable resources so having a building entirely powered on Solar power is very appealing to me.
I think I’m going to be getting the new watch. I use my current one a crazy amount, and it will allow me the ability to do workouts and runs and walks without the iPhone, which will be a welcome change. All in all, it was an excellent Keynote. I look forward to the next one. Thanks so much for indulging my Apple mania this week. Next week we’ll get back to the type of thing I talk about here.
Did you watch the Keynote?
