3 Reasons why reMarkable is Great for Students

A couple of months ago I talked about The reMarkable Tablet. I love using it, I use it all the damned time.  With School for students on the horizon, I was thinking that the reMarkable Tablet would be an excellent tool for Students to use.

LEGAL STUFF; I should specify that I am not affiliated with reMarkable in any way. if you get the tablet because of this post, the only thing I get is the knowledge that you acted on my advice.

1) It holds ALL YOUR NOTEBOOKS – One of the things that always bugged me when I was in school was carrying around the multitude of notebooks that I needed for the different classes and subjects that I went through in my scholastic career. What bothered me more was that I would use the notebooks, and then type up my notes (My handwriting is not the cleanest I will admit) later and then I would still be stuck with these notebooks that I didn’t need anymore. Instead of having the books pile up around you what you can do (assuming you are satisfied with your handwriting) is use the reMarkable tablet to take all your notes, and not only will you have the digital copy ready and waiting for you, but you can also export them as PDF’s if you need it. When you’re done, you can just pop the note into a subfolder, and you don’t need to worry about it anymore. The website claims that the remarkable can handle 100,000 pages worth of notes, and after using it for a while and seeing no sign of the tablet slowing down, I believe it.

2) You can be Organized by Subject – Speaking of subfolders, because you can create them, you can use them for the notes you want to keep for later. For those in school, this can be particularly helpful if you’re going to organize your notes by either subject or year. In my reMarkable, I have subfolders for my monthly notes, any Professional notes that I have that I don’t need urgently anymore, and any PDF books that I acquire that I want to read and take notes on. I do reference these notes, and for sure keeping them handy is helpful.

3) It’s an Investment Piece – I will be the first person to tell you that the remarkable tablet can be a seriously expensive piece of tech for s student (as of the posting it’s selling at $879.00 Canadian). There are a couple of things you need to consider that will make it more appealing. First of all, if you’re a serious note taker like I am, you’re likely going to be spending that money in notebooks anyway. Not so much at this exact moment, but for sure I have (over the course of time) paid over $800 in notebooks and pens. I still go to classes even today (even though I haven’t been a student for a while) and I always take loads of notes. Don’t think about it as a really expensive notebook, but more the last notebook you’ll ever need to own, which leads me to my other point.

Whenever I buy something expensive, I think about how long it will last Vs. It’s value. If it’s $100.00 and it lasts me 10 years, then “amortizing it out” it’s a fairly cheap investment. While reMarkable is super expensive up front, when you “amortize it out,” it actually becomes quite affordable. If you think about all the money you’d spend on notebooks and pens will be spent one way or another. I’d rather spend money on something that would work well, Something that doesn’t take up a lot of space and is elegant. Certainly, the reMarkable Tablet fits all that criteria.

I’ve been using my reMarkable for a year now, and it’s done nothing but been a useful tool. I love using it because It’s light, easy to use and it keeps all my notes organized. I can totally see this being a useful tool for people both in school and when they leave they will definitely be using it afterword.

Would you consider using remarkable and ditch the hard copy notebooks?
