Being able to backup your Cloud Filing system is important. Backing it up regularly is equally important, but the most important part of all of this is being able to back it up to a place that you can trust. This is why I use Western Digital. TO BE CLEAR; I’m not affiliated with WD, I’ve just been using their drives for a few years now and I really like using them.
There are a few reasons why I like what WD has;
1) It’s small – The hard drives that I use (and yes there is two of them) are about the size of my iPhone. I really like how small it is. If for whatever reason I need to take one of my drives on the road with me, I know that I will be able to fit it in my briefcase with very little difficulty. I have two hard drives so I have to bring them home and back to my office so having a hard drive that’s small, light, and portable is a great asset. There is a multitude of different hard drives out there that can hold a lot more data, but some of them are bulky and occasionally require a socket to power them. the WD hard drives that I use are powered from the USB port when you plug it into your computer.
2) Large capacity with little cost – Each of the drives that I have are 1 terabyte each. Each drive cost me around $100.00. This, for me, is relatively inexpensive peace of mind. I would imagine that there are cheaper solutions. I know for a fact that there are much more expensive solutions. I like the fact that what I use threads the needle of the inexpensive and large amount of memory so you can get quite a bit of bang for your buck. I have been regularly backing up my filing system for four years now and I have not yet come up against the memory limit of my drives.
3) Security – I keep all my files on my hard drive. When I say all my files, I mean everything. All my personal information, all my financial info, everything. I’m pretty good about locking the drawers where I keep my drives, but if I was to get vandalized and my drive was to be stolen I would still be secure. One of the great things about Western Digital is that there is an extra layer of security that you can download. It’s an add-on that I was able to download. The benefit is two-fold. If someone were to take my drive and plug it into their own computer the drive could not be recognized. It wouldn’t even show up. The other benefit is if they were able to steal my computer and my drive, and somehow log into my computer, they would still need the password to access the drive itself.
The files that I keep are very important to me. Because of this, I take the security of my information very seriously. In a world where people on a regular basis send phishing e-mails (as I talked about last week) and try to infiltrate your systems, it’s important to keep your information secure. In a digital world, it’s important to take steps to secure your information. For me, using Western Digital is a simple to use and efficient way to protect your information. Think of it as an insurance policy for your data. If you are ever hacked, or have a technical issue that compromises your data, you can feel safe and secure knowing they you have backed it up somewhere, and that the place you’ve backed it up is secure.
What External Drive do you use?
