Starbucks Mobile Ordering…and why I love it

I gotta say, one of the main things that helps me get through my day is coffee. I know I’m not alone on this one. Coffee is a staple of most adult lives. In 2016 the average person drank about 3 cups of coffee a day (I’m at a humble, but that’s just me). This means that with the 37 million people in Canada (as of this posting) roughly 26 million are drinking around 3 cups of coffee a day. If you think about that in terms of your morning Grande from Starbucks (with is 16 Oz.) that’s a little over a litre a day of coffee per person.

With all of that being true, you better hope that the app you use to GET your coffee works right….

Where I get my caffeine fix is from Starbucks. I’ve been going there for years, and I found that the service is great. I have, however, discovered recently that the lines at the times that I go are starting to become a bit of a hassle for me. Luckily, there’s an app for that. The Starbucks mobile app has been around for a while. I’d been using it so that I didn’t have to bring out my Starbucks card every single time I wanted to get a coffee. I liked that I was able to reload the card using the credit card attached to my iTunes account and it would go through seamlessly (and more to the point paperlessly). Recently I have started using the mobile ordering feature, and I have to say that it works just as well.

1) You can customise your order – I like many other people don’t have my coffee straight up, and while adding what I do to it doesn’t take that much time, it does take some. I have got it so that prepping my coffee in the morning is something I don’t have to think about. As any real coffee drinker knows, one’s brain runs on autopilot until Coffee is adequately applied.

2) It allows for in-app purchasing – Reloading your Starbucks card (or any card for that matter, can be a bit of a pain if you have to go to the store to do it. Not so with the Starbucks card. It’s great because while I’m walking to pick up my morning coffee if I need to reload my card, I can do it on the phone. What’s more is that if my brain is seriously on autopilot, the app will remind me that my card needs reloading and before I complete my purchase I am prompted to put money on my card first, and then the purchase happens automatically.

3) So much less time in lines – With wait times being cut down to nothing I don’t have to wait in lines anymore. This means that I can be more effective at my job. I have got it timed so that when I commute into work on the subway, I can get it so that as soon as I get out of the subway I can order my breakfast and it will be ready by the time that I get there. I like not having to wait for my food.

I am, in my heart of heart’s a routine guy. Growing up I was taught “ a place for everything and everything in its place.” I like my cup of coffee to be just the way that it is and I like to have it consistently. While I can be a patient guy if I have the option not to wait in lines, I would prefer to grab and go. That’s why Apps like the Starbucks app are so great. It allows me to get on with my day and not be dependant on how busy the store is at any given moment. Essentially, and I suppose that this is true for all store apps, the Starbucks app is a convenience that makes the experience there a bit more, well, convenient.

What Store apps do you use that makes your life easier?
