Ok, So I posted a few weeks ago that the new reMarkable 2 had been released for preorder. I also may have mentioned that I had talked about it before. For those of you who may be new to this blog, I would like to take this opportunity to do a little more ranting and raving about how completely excellent this product is. I first discovered it through a Facebook ad, and it took me a while to commit, but it has completely changed my life. For those of you who have never heard of it before, reMarkable is advertised as a “paper tablet.” It simulates all the aspects of paper, without actually being paper. It’s not backlit; it doesn’t have any wild graphics. It’s not even in colour. All it does is act as a pad of paper, without actually being paper, but boy does it have some amazing features to it.
1) It’s an incredible productivity tool – I love using my reMarkable for everything and anything that I have to write down. First of all, because it takes PDFs if I have to sign any documents, it’s easy to put them on my remarkable and then export the signed copy. Second of all, as I write this article, I am in the middle of a university program where many notes are required to be taken. I am doing everything on my reMarkable, and I am keeping everything in one place. It has been an incredible tool for managing my notes. I love the fact that you can create folders and subfolders for all of my notes and PDFs that I can load onto my tablet. I even have a folder for documents that I am planning on reading and making notes on in the future. I like taking notes when I’m in meetings and stuff, so I keep a note for each month of the year. I also have a subfolder for all of my previous notes (Which I subdivide by year….yeah, I’m a big nerd) so that if I know at least to the month and year when I took note that I need to find, I know exactly where to find it.
2) It’s nearly indestructible – So here’s the thing about me. On occasion, I have been known to be a bit clumsy and a little forgetful of where I put my stuff. While the clumsiness is a constant battle, I have figured out the forgetting where I put things by making sure that I have my things in specific spots and only those spots. I know it’s a bit OCD, but bear with me here. A year or so ago, I was working with my reMarkable on my back porch. It was a hot summer day, and at one point or another, I was asked by one of my kids to come into the house to help with something. Being a helpful guy by nature, I did, but then completely forgot that I’d left my reMarkable outside. It was (by accident) left baking in the sun for a couple of hours. for most technology, this means you go out and buy a new one. The reMarkable just kept on going! It was great! I recently was working at my desk, and (this is where the clumsy come in) knocked my full water glass onto my remarkable, covering the thing in water. Again, most technology would be done at that point. Not the reMarkable. After drying it off and panicking for an hour or so, I was able to pick the thing up and start using it as if nothing had happened!
3) It’s simple and not distracting – I will admit, when I’m on my other devices, I get distracted by the other stuff that’s on that device. I’m not alone in this. I know many people have talked about checking e-mails and then floating over to Facebook or that game they’ve been playing. I understand the distractions, and sometimes I welcome them myself, but when I’m working on certain things or writing notes, I want to be focused on what I’m doing. Typically I’m not a fan of single-use devices, but in this case, the one use (making notes) has so many different applications. Like I said before, I’m doing an online course this year, and it had been and continues to be endlessly helpful for me in taking notes, going through Pdf documents and highlighting selected sections and keeping organized my texts when I’m done with them. I like the fact that I can’t play solitaire or other games on the thing, so it keeps me focused on what I need to do.
All in all, reMarkable is a fantastic solution for any handwritten needs. It’s one of those things that, for the longest time, I struggled with simply because I didn’t know if there was a solution for anything that needed to be handwritten. Remarkable does such an elegant (and durable) job of dealing with anything that you may need to write down. Whether it’s keeping a journal that you write in daily, making notes on a document, or just doodling dor the fun of it, reMarkable has you covered.
Would you consider getting a reMarkable Tablet?
