For any of your who are long-time readers of mine, you will know that I’m a massive reMarkable Tablet geek. This is a product that I found a few years back and have been LOVING ever since. I’ve certainly talked about it on the blog enough times to qualify. For those of you who have not heard me talking about it, reMarkable is a straightforward note-taking system that allows you to make handwritten notes, edit and annotate PDFs, and draw to your heart’s content. Oh wait, hang on…
WARNING!!!! LEGAL MUMBO JUMBO!!!! I am not affiliated with reMarkable. I am a super fan, and if you decide to get one of these devices based on my post (first of all, good for you) but I don’t get anything from it other than the knowledge that I was able to help you make the decision…we all good here? Great, ON WITH THE POST!!!
Now you’re probably wondering why I’ve decided to start talking about one of my favourite devices again. Recently (and by recently, I mean last month or so), there was a software update that added a couple of seriously cool features. Frankly, I don’t need an excuse to talk about how fantastic this product is…but having something new to talk about probably helps. I know that when there are ANY updates for reMarkable, I tend to have the same reaction;
In this case, the software updates that they have come up with are really useful and, honestly, quite cool.
1) Flip between documents – This is one of those things that I don’t think has ever bothered me before, but now that I know the option to use it is there, I will definitely be using it. When you’re in a document or a notebook in reMarkable, if you wanted to switch to another, you had to exit from the document and then go into the other one. This is easy enough if all of your documents are in the same place, but what if they are buried in the folder structure you’ve set up for yourself? Now what you can do is switch in between documents reasonably easily. according to the update notes (and I’ve tested this), all you need to do is swipe two fingers down from the top. You will find a list of your most recently accessed documents right there for you to jump to. You can also create a “favourite” documents list and use the same process to jump to those. What’s great about this is that you don’t need to manually search everywhere for documents if you want to flip back and forth.
2) Projecting on the screen – I’ll admit, I don’t have a great use for this yet, but I think it’s super cool, and when I tested it out, it worked like a dream. The team at reMarkable has made it so that whatever document or page you’re working on will be projected on your computer screen. This means that you can see whatever you are writing, drawing, editing on a bigger screen in real-time. When I tested this, I was able to see on my computer screen where on the document my pencil was. I mean, obviously, it was in my hand, and I was doodling and signing my name, so it wasn’t a big deal, but for people who are using this tool for architectural drawings or other things, this could be a cool way to get more accurate drawings. You are only able to project through the reMarkable app on your computer, but the changes to your document are made in real-time.
3) Favourites – I realized in my excitement I talked in the first point about favourite without explaining! If I’m honest, this feature isn’t new to this update, but I’m going to start using it now that the flip element is here. Favourites, I would imagine, is pretty self-explanatory. If you press and hold a document on your reMarkable tablet, it will highlight it, and one of the options at the top of the screen that will appear is to make it a “favourite” document. I’ll be honest, I didn’t use this option before because I wasn’t sure if there was a particular use for it, but now that they have included the Favourites with the flip function, I’m TOTALLY going to give it a go.
I get that I’m a massive reMarkable guy, so anything new and interesting that happens for this device will make me scream like a 14-year-old girl meeting a boy band. The reason I get so hyped up over this kind of thing is that it’s stuff like this that is why I write this blog. Using a digital device so that you would have previously done something hard copy is where I live. This is the essence of Organizing Your Digital Life. The reMarkable is, aptly named, a remarkable device that allows you to get all of your handwritten notes in a place. That, and its ability to load PDFs and edit from the apps you can get on your desktop or mobile device, makes it the best solution for your handwritten needs.
What do you think about reMarkable?
