reMarkable 2 Has Been Released

About a month ago, reMarkable launched the pre-orders for the second generation of their paper tablet, which they called reMarkable 2. For those of you who have followed my blog, you will know that I am a massive reMarkable fan. Having one has completely changed my life. Previous to this product, I would take notebooks to meetings, writing down what I could. I would have piled of printed off Pdf’s that I wanted to take with me that I needed. Some unmarked, some with scribbles and notes all over them. reMarkable has completely changed the game for me. While the tablet is impressive, there were some software gaps at the start. They have made significant changes in this regard over the past year or so. Now they have done a serious hardware upgrade. These updates have allowed them to make some substantial changes to their system. With this new device, there are some physical updates that address some deficiencies.

1) The marker is now magnetic – The marker that you use for reMarkable is usually quite cool, but this takes it to a whole new level. I will say this, I do like the fact that it has a magnetic aspect so that it will stick to the reMarkable. The magnetic pen means that when you are walking around, you can attach it to the side of the device, which is much simpler. I will give one word of warning here in that just because it’s magnetic doesn’t necessarily mean that the connection is strong. If you are carrying around the reMarkable 2 in your briefcase or purse then it’s possible for the marker to get knocked off of the device and fall into your briefcase. The only time I could see this an issue is if someone was to knock into you and accidentally knocks the pen out of place without you knowing. Other than that, I like the fact that the new marker will stick to the side of the device.

2) Eraser on the Marker – I’ll be honest, on of the most significant issues with the way that reMarkable is set up is that the eraser is a button that needs to be pushed and it’s not in the marker itself. With the reMarkable two and the subsequent new pen that goes along with it, they seem to have fixed that issue. The new marker (which comes in either grey or black) has a built-in eraser which appears to erase the content on the tablet. Now, this makes the writing experience a bit more seamless in that when you want to erase something, you only have to flip the marker around in your hand (like you would a pencil and a standard piece of paper) and erase whatever mistake you made.

3) Book folio – Having a book folio is not an improvement to the reMarkable itself. The new folio is an improvement because the original sleeve can be a bit cumbersome to get the reMarkable in and out of all the time. Personally, I’ve been looking for a holder for my reMarkable that has more of a notebook feel to it. I like that reMarkable is giving people this option for it’s a newer product, but because I still have the first iteration of their product, I’m always looking for something that I can use.

If you haven’t seen or heard of reMarkable before, I would HIGHLY advise that you check it out. It’s a great product that I’ve been using for about three years now, and I love it just as much as when I heard about it the first time. It’s a great product that I highly recommend. If you want to check out the reMarkable website and see what they have to offer, you can click this link, and you will see for yourself how excellent this product is.

Have you considered using reMarkable?

    Jason,
I remember seeing this machine early on, and thinking…”my iPad Pro with Good Notes does the same thing”…but on your suggestion I will try the new version of ReM.
