I’m Creating my Own Office!

Yup! I’m finally getting my own home office! For years and years, I’ve lived in apartments and smaller homes where the spare room was a guest room where visitors would be able to stay, but I live in a house now where I have a room in my basement which is being used for nothing at all. I have always wanted to have an office in my house, if for no other reason than it means I have a space to work.

For the past few years, my office has been the kitchen table or my lap sitting on the couch. Because 95% of my work is digital, I have been fortunate enough that I can do what I need to wherever I happen to park myself. Now that I have the opportunity I am going to set myself up a digital office, and I would like you to come along for the ride.

I’ll be honest the room that I was using was a live-in guest room in which we housed a couple of my wife’s relatives for some time (I should specify, one at a time…it’s not a large room). Now, however, it has been empty for a few months, and I’ve gotten the green light to set up my own office!

There are going to be lots of things that I have to consider and a lot of decisions that I’m going to have to make. This I felt was a PERFECT opportunity for you to learn about what a Digital Office means for me. I’ll be posting my regular blog posts on Tuesdays (as per usual), but on Thursday’s I’ll be chatting about what steps I’m taking to create my own physical space.

I plan to set the place up with a bunch of different gadgets and gizmos that will allow me to keep my Digital Life as Organized as possible. I will be talking about what I went with, what considerations I gave and what other options are available.

There are quite a few things to consider when setting up your home office. I’m lucky enough to be starting from scratch, the only piece that I have at the time of this posting is my laptop and my scanner! If you’re setting up your office and you have some furniture that you can use, then you’re ahead of me. As you can see from the picture below I don’t have a lot of work to clean the room out; I just have to figure out my orientation and what I want to go into the office once I’m done.

This is going to be an exciting project. For me it’s because, in the end, let’s be honest, I’ll have a super cool office. For you, it will be interesting because you will get a glimpse into how I get myself organized and I hope that this will be able to give you a guide to creating your own space.

Do you have your own space to work at home?
