Go through your Photos

So here we are in the new year. You may be wondering to yourself, “What am I going to do this year?” I’m all about having many different suggestions, but this time around, I think that one of the things that you may want to consider doing is something that I’ll be doing, which is going through your photos. We all have ( or mostly have) our pictures all online, and it’s essential (like everything else in your digital life) to keep them organized.

1) Remove the noise – I don’t know about you, but I spend a bit more time than I’m comfortable admitting floating around Social media, looking at the funny memes and things you can find there. Sometimes I find something that I feel the need to share with my wife, which means I need to copy the photo and send it to her. Sometimes they are so funny that I save them, thinking that I will look at them later and laugh about it. This saving of memes (which I go back to far less than I originally intend) means that I have many photos on my phone that I don’t need. Going through and removing the clutter in your photostream is one of the easiest ways to clean up your photos.

2) Sort as necessary – As you may have imagined from everything about me, I like to be as organized as humanly possible. That being said, the one part of my life that I haven’t been as fastidious about keeping well organized is my photos. There are a couple of ways that you can sort your photos. The easiest way to sort your photos would be by year only. Typically they will have some sort of metadata on them, which will allow them to be

3) Back up everything somewhere safe – For those of you who have followed me for a while, you know that I love my backups. I LOVE making sure that my data is backed up and is somewhere secure. I don’t particularly have an opinion on whether or not you keep the photos you’ve backed up in active circulation (that is to say, on your phone) but knowing that my memories and pictures are secure is something that always helps me sleep at night.

This is a project that I’m going to be working on throughout the year. The fact of the matter is (Mia Culpa time people) that I have not been backing up my photos as I should be. This is the year that I am going to be taking on this particular project. The only reason that it is a project is that I haven’t done it for a while. Once I get into my grove and get a routine going, It shouldn’t be that difficult.

Have you backed up your photos somewhere?

Timely post. I am in the midst of doing this right now. I have backed up to a hard drive and trying to also put them all in iPhotos as I have half in a photos file and half in the Apple photos app.
