So the Apple Event is today at 1 pm Est, and I believe that this one is a significant one. I know, I know, I’m a mac person, so anytime there is a message passed down from the high altar of Cupertino, we all act like it’s the voice of God. But in this case, I think that there can be some significant things that are (or should be) discussed that ordinary people would be interested in as well. There are some personal things, some professional things and some stuff that I am generally just interested in to see how they handle it.
1) New hardware – This is the standard fair. A couple has asked me of people if I thought Apple would come out with a new phone this year, which is like asking if the leaves are going to change colour this year. For sure, they are, and they have also been teasing a 1TB phone, but what will be interesting to see is what the details are for the Phone and any other hardware that they come out with. I’m also curious to know if they come out with new iPad stuff to go along with the new Phone.
2) New Software – I was recently told by my son that the games I play on my Phone were “boring.” In his defence, he does actually play cooler games than me, and I’ve always stuck o games that A) don’t require an internet connection and B) Don’t require the use of my brain to do them. The reason for this was so that I would be able to play them on the subway while I commuted to work and not worry that I would lose connection. That being said, I know that Apple can occasionally feature a game or two which look SUPER cool, and I think I may give one of those a go. I’m also curious to see if there is a new overall OS update for all of my devices. I would assume that one is coming out, and they will announce it at the event today. If there are some cool features and things, rest assured I will be reporting back on that. Speaking of games, though…
3) Addressing the Apple Vs. Epic Verdict – The verdict on the Apple Vs. Epic antitrust case came back in favour of Apple. Epic is appealing the decision (Naturally), but it will be interesting to see what Tim Cook says about it (if anything at all). I was thinking this past weekend about that scene in Superman Returns after Superman Saved the world but fell and was in the hospital, and they didn’t know what his Fate was. You see over Perry White’s shoulder two different headlines “Superman Lives!!!” and “Superman died.” I was thinking that Tim Cook had two different scripts about how the talk today will go. One would say, “We won the case!!” and the other one would say, “We lost and here’s how we’re going to operate going forward.” I’ll be honest; I’m not holy surprised that Judge Roger’s reached the decision that she did, Now it will be up to the appeals court to confirm (or overturn) her decision. I’m hopeful that Apple doesn’t “spike the football” when discussing this. I hope that they say something along the lines of “hey, we operated within the rules, and that was confirmed. Let’s move on.”
I always love watching Apple events. The presentation style has always been so much fun to watch (#applefanboy), and I’ve always found it interesting. I’ve got my bowl of popcorn and soft drink (Well, Water and light snack….I am still on a diet, right?), and I’m looking forward to checking out what new stuff Apple is going to come out with. I’ll watch the event today and come back to you next week with my thoughts on what happened and what I thought was cool with the event.
If you’d like to check out the event yourself, you can see it here.
