For those of you who have been following along in the past couple of weeks, I have been talking about my office set up. Well, I am now within striking distance of being able to order my very own STANDUP DESK!!!! I’m super stoked about this because I really like the concept. The type of standup desk that I’m getting is actually going to be a convertible one. So I will be able to sit down if I really need to. There are a few different reasons that having a Standup desk is a good thing;
1) Sitting is the new smoking – This is a cliche that I have heard over and over again but I’ll tell you, in my working life when I sit at my computer for a few hours I do feel the need to stand up and walk around. I feel so much better when I’m standing anyways that I think that having this at home will help me when I do the work that I do at home (and the blogging I do at home…). As apart of my day job I do a lot of “front line” IT support, so I will have days where I go from support call to support call. I had a day a few months ago where I only spent about five or six minutes at my desk. In eight hours!
2) It’s going to be better for my posture – There are many people who sit in chairs who develop poor posture because they are hunched over their keyboards (Please know I’m raising my hand on this one) and having a stand-up desk is a way to correct that issue. I have, far too many times, found that when I’m working on something interesting for a long period of time, I have to stop at one point or another because I am hunched over my computer so much I’d practically be at a parallel angle with my keyboard. This, over time, will not be good.
3) It’s just super cool – Look, I’m a bit of a geek when it comes to this stuff and I’m fully able to admit the fact that I’m buying myself a convertible standup desk is totally awesome. Ever since I started hearing about convertible standup desks I thought it would be cool to have one. As I mentioned before I never had an office in my home before so there was no point in having a desk. Now however with my office set up I’m ready to go from Configuration 1.0 to Configuration 2.0.
Your office is a place where you should enjoy being, so it’s important to have furniture and things that will invite you and make it so that you actually want to be there. My stand up desk is a next piece that will allow me to enjoy my working space in my home. I will keep you updated when I actually get the thing in.
