We’ve been talking this whole month about Apps and what they can do for you, so I figure I should probably go through some of my favourites. There are some Apps that I will use occasionally, and there are some which I’ll probably use only once or twice. Those I tend to delete after a while. There are however some apps which have proven to me to be so indispensable to me that I end up using them on a daily basis.
1) Wunderlist – This is my todo list app. It’s one that I use for a couple of reasons. First of all, I use it to keep myself organized. I’m a big fan of to-do lists, and I find that this one, in particular, keeps me organized. This is because I can add due dates to specific tasks and there is a daily tasks feature which brings up all the tasks that I have to get done on a particular day. I’m trying something new this year in that I have set a repeating daily task which merely says “Complete all your daily tasks.” The theory for me is that I will be able to have even that much more sense of completion when I have many to do’s on any given day, and my last task will be to “Complete all your daily tasks” and checking off that one will complete my day. I’ve talked about Wunderlist before; you can check out the original post here.
2) Spark – To access my e-mail I like using an app called Spark. For the most part, most e-mail clients work approximately the same. They have roughly the same features, but the things that I like the most have quite a bit to do with the user interface (or the look and feel). I love how they separate e-mails between Notifications, newsletters, and regular mail. This makes it easier to read because I don’t have to sift through the junk mail that I get so that I can get to the e-mails that matter most more efficiently. There is so much more to this e-mail client, and you can check out my original post about it here.
3) Activity – As a big Apple fan keeping an eye on my rings through the Activity app is something that I find myself doing every day. It’s a cool way that Apple has gamified people’s day to day activity levels. Closing my rings has become a daily activity for me. They also have badges and monthly challenges which make you work even harder and push you further than you would typically go.
4) Ballz – This is a game I have on my phone. It’s by a company called Ketchapp, and it’s a relatively straightforward concept. There are bricks with numbers on them if you hit a brick with a ball the number goes down, but every time you launch the bricks get closer to the bottom of the screen. The idea is not to let the rows of bricks hit the bottom of the screen. I’ll be honest, what I like about this game the most is that it doesn’t require a cell or internet connection to work. It has kept me entertained for many a morning and evening while commuting back and forth from work.
5) Evernote – Come on now, you can’t expect me to talk about my favourite apps and NOT include Evernote do you? Longtime followers will know that I’m utterly obsessed with Evernote. It’s a great app for note taking, keeping records, and keeping information for research purposes. It has Web browsing extensions which it easier to save data to your Evernote Account, and it has levels of organization which makes it so that you are always well organized. I have written about Evernote multiple times on this blog, so if you would like to learn more then go to my search engine and type in Evernote, and you will see all the posts that I’ve put up on this incredibly awesome program.
I recognize that most of these Apps are “productivity apps” and that there a great number of apps out there that are equally as useful (or fun to have) but I figured I could focus on the ones that I quite literally use on a daily basis. Also, The tag line for this blog is ”Organize your Digital Life” if I didn’t focus on stuff that would keep you organized it would look a little odd no?
Also if you liked having a theme for the month (This one is all about apps) let me know. If enough of you enjoyed having a theme for the Month (this month’s theme being “apps”), Then let me know in the comments section. If it’s a big enough of a hit, I might try and get something together later on this year.
