Well, It’s nearly the holiday season, so It’s probably about time for you to get some Holiday shopping started (or finished). For some of you, you may have a techie in your life who loves technology and anything roughly associated with it. Depending on how “techie” the person may be, finding things that you can get them for the holidays can be tricky. Luckily, you have me to show you some of the coolest stuff I’ve seen out there.
LEGAL DISCLAIMER!!!! This is one of those posts where I’m going to be recommending stuff, but I’m not affiliated with any of it. If you click any of the links below and purchase, I only get the satisfaction of knowing you got the idea from me :). No money comes my way for this. We all good? Sweet, ON WITH THE POST!!!!
1) Massager – This is something that my wife got me for my birthday, and with it, she continued to prove how much of a gift-giving Jedi Master she is. I don’t know about you, but one of the downsides of office work is being hunched over a computer (even at a standup desk). I do my best not to hunch, but my neck usually ends up hurting nearly always. When it’s bad, it consumes my whole day. My wife bought me this neck massager to fix this, which is the best I’ve ever experienced. It does this entire shiatsu thing, and the massagers are heated; it’s great. The funny thing about it is that I showed it to a buddy of mine, and while he only used it for like 20 minutes, by the time he was done, he had already ordered one for himself off Amazon. He later told me that when he showed it to his folks, they had a similar reaction. You can find it through Amazon here. I promise the person who you’re getting it for will deeply appreciate it.
2) WD 2TB hard drive – I want to take a moment on this one. This hard drive could store 2 TeraBytes of data. That’s over 2000 GB’s, which is like putting 250 movies in one spot. I looked for an “if you printed everything off on paper” analogy for you and the internet has way too many answers for how much data would be in 2TB’s. Suffice it to say you would have at least one dump truck filled to overflowing with paper if you tried printing it all out. Here’s the kicker, These drives are LESS than $100.00 (Canadian)!!!! When I started storing my data, a 1TB drive was over 250 and was the size of a small block engine! Now you can get double that in the palm of your hand!!! For info Geeks like me, that’s pretty cool. Also, because It’s WD (Western Digital), It’s a product that I’ve used for a while and learned to trust. You can find a link to the ones that I use here.
3) Oculus Quest – If you find that the tech nerd in your life is more of a gaming mood, the Quest is perhaps the most badass system I’ve ever used. First of all, it’s REALLY easy to use and operate, the tutorials for what buttons do what actions are really helpful, and remember, because it’s a VR system, many of the actions you take are YOU YOURSELF doing things. I like that because the play area is virtual and so defined by whatever space you happen to be in; you can set up the Quest nearly anywhere. They advise against setting it up outside, I would imagine, because of weather conditions, and they don’t want you running into the street or something. With everyone still stuck (Mostly) at home, using the Quest to escape is an easy, quick and frankly fun way to get away from it all. You can see all the features for the Oculus Quest here.
4) reMarkable 2 – I have spoken quite a few times about how completely badass a notebook reMarkable is. I like using it for all of my notes. Anything handwritten is now done there, which saves me on a ton of paper. I recently upgraded to their second model (cleverly titled reMarkable 2), and it is even more awesome than the first. I like the fact that the pen magnetically clips to the side of the device now. There are a great number of features that I plan on gushing about in a later post, but for now, let’s say that if you have someone in your life who is a big note taker, reMarkable 2 would be a wise investment for them and a great gift from you. You can check it out here.
5) Kindle – Now this particular device isn’t for Techie’s per se, but as a guy who doesn’t like being cluttered by too much paper, I have to say I LOVE my Kindle. A few months back, I was abler to go to my cottage for a couple of weeks and bring three or four books with me (not that I read them all, I just like the selection) and the only space I needed my backpack was for my Kindle. It’s a great way to read books. Frankly, the purchasing process could be a little smoother; you need to go to Amazon on another device and purchase the book; you can’t buy directly from the Kindle, but other than that, it’s a handy device to have lying around. Kindle’s can be found by just visiting Amazon.
With so many things that techie could love out on the market and with more on the way, I could only imagine that any gift-giver would be spoiled for choice. Just in case you are stumped for options. Hopefully, this has given you a couple of ideas of where to get started. Happy Shopping and Happy Holidays!
